A 65-year-old Villager will avoid prosecution after being arrested in the stripping of a Villages-owned home on the Historic Side.

In July, Mitchell Kaput allegedly stripped the windows, flooring and other items from the home at 812 Beechwood Ave. Kaput, who lives on Turnberry Lane, not far from the Village of Silver Lake home he stripped, had been accused of selling the materials taken from the house.

Kaput told police that he had contacted Villages Property Management and was told to “take whatever you want,” according to the arrest report. Villages Property Management denied giving Kaput permission to take anything.

This week in Lake County Court, Kaput was sentenced to a pre-trial diversion program.

If he completes the program, the case will be dismissed.
