A 64-year-old Village of Lake Deaton woman arrested in February after she allegedly tried to pry open a door with a crowbar is hoping to escape prosecution.

Wanda Hare was arrested Feb. 26 after she allegedly tried to use a crow bar to pry open a bedroom door her husband had locked at their home on Ivey Terrace.

She is facing a third degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She remains free on $5,000 bond.

At the time of Hare’s arrest, her husband told law enforcement that his wife has a drinking problem and she had been drinking heavily at the time of the incident. You can read more about the arrest HERE

A prosecutor has found that Hare may be eligible for pre-trial intervention which could enable her to escape prosecution.

“Should you successfully complete the PTI, the charge(s) against you would be dismissed,” wrote Assistant State Attorney Marissa Anne Meyer.

Hare is represented by attorney J. Scott Herman who last year successfully negotiated a PTI agreement for a Villages line dance instructor who had been accused of punching another woman at Spanish Springs Town Square. You can read about that case HERE

Hare entered a plea of not guilty on April 11 in Sumter County Court. She is due back in court on May 10.
