A 78-year-old Villager who was riding a motorcycle was critically injured Friday afternoon in a crash involving a fellow motorcyclist and a school bus on U.S. 301.
Nicholas Knolmayer was transported by ambulance to Ocala Regional Medical Center as a result of the accident.
He had been riding a 2008 Yamaha motorcycle at 3:20 p.m. when he failed to see that 78-year-old Larry P. Caron, also of The Villages, had stopped for the off-loading of the final passenger of a school bus at the intersection of U.S. 301 and County Road 532 in Sumter County, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol.
Knolmayer’s motorcycle collided with Caron’s motorcycle and then the school bus.
Caron suffered serious injuries and was transported to The Villages Regional Hospital.
The school bus driver, 59-year-old Betty Pegg of Webster, was not injured. Her sole passenger, 11-year-old Tristan Segrest of Bushnell, also escaped injury.
Knolmayer had not been wearing a helmet, the FHP report indicated. Caron had been wearing a helmet.
