Villager Don Hahnfeldt has filed paperwork to run for the Florida House of Representatives.

He will seek the District 33 House seat now held by state Rep. Marlene O’Toole who will be term-limited out of the legislature.

Hahnfeldt is currently chairman of the Sumter County Board of Commissioners. The Village of Bridgeport at Lake Miona resident also serves on the board of directors for the Central Florida Health Alliance and is a past president of the Villages Homeowners Association.

“Marlene has done a great job,” Hahnfeldt said. “But it is important that we continue to have a voice and presence in Tallahassee that will hold the line.”

Hahnfeldt, 70, will continue to serve on the county commission as he seeks the House seat.

His name will first appear on the ballot in the primary of August 2016.
