A 65-year-old resident of The Villages will avoid prosecution in connection with an altercation with a fellow Villager earlier this year over dog excrement in the Village of Liberty Park.
John William Marcus had been arrested June 4 on charges of battery and criminal mischief. Marcus “chest bumped” and punched the other Villager. He also broke the man’s bifocals in the skirmish, according to an arrest report.
Marcus later told a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy, “I know I messed up, he said what he said to me and I just snapped.”
A document indicating that the case will not be prosecuted was filed Sept. 6 in Sumter County Court.
Marcus entered into a pre-trial intervention contract that called for him to make restitution in the amount of $357 to the victim. Marcus has also been ordered to have no contact with the man.
Marcus was also ordered to undergo eight hours of anger management training and perform 20 hours of community service.
He was also fined $250.
