Villager organizes support group for caregivers of heart patients

A support group for caregivers of heart patients is being formed. This group spearheaded by Enid Cristodero will meet at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 12 at  the Sumter County Sheriff’s Annex at County Road 466 and Morse Boulevard.

A group of four met for an organizational meeting in April and they are now ready to open the doors to anyone who could benefit from the exchange of ideas and support from others going through a similar experience.

Cristodero’s husband Jerry had a triple bypass a year and a half ago. He is part of a rehab group at The Villages Hospital Regional which has turned also into a social group that goes out to lunch once a month. From this Cristodero had the idea to start a support group

“No one should go through this alone,” she said.

This group is open to any caregivers, not just spouses, of heart patients, which includes any kind of heart conditions. The selection of the meeting spot was intentional. The Cristodero’s in the Village of St. James, but she wanted anyone in the surrounding area who felt the need for support to be able to attend.

Cristodero plans for the meetings to have structure and be informative as well as a time for sharing.

For more information about this new support group, contact  Cristodero at (954) 295-0461.
