Villager hits his fifth double-eagle this week at Evans Prairie

What are the odds that Doug Bartle would shoot a fifth double-eagle two weeks after shooting his fourth? Highly unlikely according to the stats posted by the Double-Eagle Club in Augusta, Ga. Bartle is the only amateur golfer in the United States to have shot five double eagles in casual play.

He shot his most recent double eagle at Evans Prairie on Monday at Hole # 3, a par 5, on Killdeer. After hitting his tee shot, a golfing companion joked, “Time for another double eagle.” Bartle’s second shot with a four wood put it in the hole. “It is 99.9% luck,” said Bartle.

“I am so proud I could pop,” said Doug’s wife Jeanie. “Doug is a very humble man, but he happens to be married to a wife with a big mouth.”

Doug said hitting his fifth double eagle was “kind of great, you just don’t expect it.”

“Golf is a fun game, a nice way to retire.  Through golf I have made a lot of friends in the Villages,” he said.
