Villager in golf cart arrested on drunk driving charge after watching football game

A Village of St. James man is free on $1,000 bond following his arrest Sunday night on a charge of drunk driving.

James Robert Lexander, 67, of Hopespring Loop, had been driving in his golf cart at about 8:30 p.m. Sunday in the St. Charles area, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy responding to a drunk driving complaint arrived to find Community Watch out with Lexander who had reportedly been driving erratically. Lexander told the deputy he had been drinking while watching a football game.

Lexander failed field sobriety exercises.

He provided breath samples that registered .183 and .181 blood alcohol content. He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center. He has no prior DUI arrests, the arrest report noted.
