Villager preps for this weekend’s NFC Championship with an unusual ritual

To prepare for this weekend’s NFC Championship game between the Green Bay Packers and the Atlanta Falcons, Villager John Stadtmueller performs a ritual that has his Village of Pinellas neighbors wondering.

Stadtmueller has been hanging his Green Bay Packers flag upside down on his home. He has been doing it for eight weeks.

The Oshkosh, Wis. native describes himself an avid fan basically since birth.

“My father got season tickets in 1959 and we went to every home game from then until 1994,” he said.

Stadtmueller said his flag has always been put up on his house. However, after a consecutive four losses from late October to November, he said, like any other Packers fan, he became depressed.

That was the moment he decided to do something a little different with his beloved flag.

Stadtmueller said he placed the flag upside down, so that God could see it a little better.

And ever since then, he watched his team win eight games straight.

With the NFC Championship around the corner, he has his flag upside down for God to see this Sunday afternoon when his team plays in Atlanta against the Falcons.

Stadtmueller has one message for the team: “Go! Pack! Go!”
