A Villager remains in the intensive care unit at Ocala Regional Medical Center following a motorcycle accident this past Friday on U.S. 301 in Sumter County.
Nicholas Knolmayer, 78, of the Village of Amelia, had been riding a motorcycle which struck another motorcycle and a school bus. A fellow motorcyclist, 78-year-old Larry P. Caron, also of The Villages, suffered serious injuries, but is reportedly on the mend. The school bus driver and lone passenger escaped injury.
Although an accident report issued by the Florida Highway Patrol initially indicated that Knolmayer had not been wearing a helmet, his family said he had been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. The helmet was collected by the towing company, along with the motorcycle.
Family members have been at the hospital with Knolmayer’s wife, Joyce, who had not been riding with her husband at the time of the accident.
“His recovery will be long and tenuous, but God will heal him,” Knolmayer’s son, Keith, said.
He wanted to thank the nursing staff for its “tremendous” care of his father. He and his family also want to thank Villagers for their continued prayers for his father.
