A 60-year-old Villager swore repeatedly at a Sumter County sheriff’s deputy during a DUI arrest Sunday night at Lake Sumter Landing.
Claude Wesley Jenkins of the Village of Orange Blossom Gardens had been at the wheel of a golf cart which ran a stop sign on Lakeshore Drive, according to an arrest report.
It appeared Jenkins had been drinking and would say only that he was coming from a restaurant.
When a deputy was offering instructions about field sobriety exercises, Jenkins told the deputy, “I am a Vietnam veteran.”
He then began to swear at the deputy and repeatedly used obscenities all the way to the Sumter County Detention Center.
Jenkins added that he comes from “a family of law enforcement.”
A criminal history check showed that Jenkins has had seven previous DUI convictions.
He was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence and booked on $10,000 bond.
