A Villager well known in theater circles in The Villages was arrested after an altercation at her home in the Village of Sanibel.
Vanessa Russell, 62, a member of the Villages Theater Company, is facing a charge of battery after her arrest Friday night.
She and a man got into an argument at about 9:30 p.m. Friday on their way home to their residence on Bradford Loop. Once they got home, they got out of their vehicle and began to enter their home.
While they were in the living room, they continued to argue. The man told Russell he was going to leave and go for a walk, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
She then grabbed at his collar and scratched his neck. He then grabbed ahold of her arms and pushed her onto the sofa. While he was holding her on the sofa, he told her to stop trying to hit him and then let go of her arms. She then attempted to grab at his collar again and scratched his chest. He again grabbed ahold of Russell and held her on the sofa for approximately five to 10 minutes until she calmed down. He then quickly left the residence.
A deputy arrived on the scene and interviewed both Russell and the man. The deputy determined that Russell was the primary aggressor.
She was taken into custody and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center.
