On Sunday morning, a busload of Villagers will be heading down to Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell to place flags at veterans’ graves.
This event, the first of its kind at Florida National Cemetery, is being coordinated through Flags for Fallen Vets.
Villager Diana Bernard will be among the local group heading to Bushnell. Her late husband Donald, who is buried in the cemetery in Bushnell, served as a torpedo man aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ticonderoga (CV-14).
This year, there will be more than 6,500 volunters placing more than 230,000 American flags at three national cemeteries. The other cemeteries are located in Dallas and Houston.
