A Villager’s 53-year-old “problem child” was so desperate to avoid a drunk driving arrest, she recently fled a hospital emergency room with an IV in her arm.
Lyn Ellen Kaminski, who lives on Royal Palm Avenue in the Village of Silver Lake, had been at the wheel of a car that struck a SECO power pole at 5:15 p.m. Feb. 4 on Griffin Avenue, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. SECO officials estimated damage to the pole at $5,000.
A Good Samaritan happened upon the accident and tried to help Kaminski. But when the Good Samaritan called 911, Kaminski begged her not to do it. Police arrived at the scene and noted that Kaminski had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. An ambulance was summoned and Kaminski was transported to Leesburg Regional Medical Center. Police later learned that Kaminski had fled the emergency room with an intravenous tube still connected to her arm. Leesburg police and the Lake County Sheriff’s Office searched the area for Kaminski, who works as a server at Wolfy’s restaurant in Leesburg, but were unable to locate her.
Police went to the home on Royal Palm Avenue to interview Kaminski’s mother. She described her daughter as her “problem child.” She showed police a text she had received from Kaminski in which she admitted she had been drinking prior to the accident.
Warrants were obtained charging Kaminski driving under the influence with property damage and driving while license suspended. She was taken into custody Feb. 22 and released after posting $2,000 bond.
She has been arrested a number of times in Lake County for driving without a license. She was arrested in 2013 for violating her probation on a charge of driving while license suspended. She was arrested in 2010 on a charge of battery.
