Ansen Sligar, son of Don and Jayne Sligar of the Village of Palo Alto, was part of Friday’s Parade of Athletes at the Opening Ceremonies of the Sochi Winter Olympics.
Ansen Sligar is leading the U.S. Virgin Islands Olympic team.
Legendary Russian hockey goalie Vladislav Tretiak lit the Olympic flame, along with Russian figure skater Irina Rodnina, winner of three Olympic gold medals and 10 world championships.
The huge event, broadcast on NBC, was a musical trek through Russia’s complex history.
Ansen Sligar is serving as chef de mission (French for Head of the Mission) for the U.S. Virgin Islands Olympic team. He is responsible for the logistics of Team Virgin Islands while staying in the Mountain Cluster in Sochi. His duties include everything from sports accreditations, meals, lodging and transportation to athlete support.
He was at the London Olympics in 2012 and the Vancouver Winter Olympics in 2010.
