A 40-year-old son of a Villager is free on bond after spending nearly a month behind bars on a grand theft charge.

James Clay Followell was arrested Oct. 15 at his home at 1640 W. Schwartz Blvd. on the Historic Side of The Villages.

He is accused of stealing a dolly from a neighbor’s home. When police arrived at the Followell home to investigate, Followell’s father stuck up for his son, saying he believed his son had permission to have the dolly.

His case is still pending in Lake County Court.

Followell has been arrested several times in the past five years.

While he was still listing an Indianapolis address, he was arrested in 2011 in Lady Lake as an out-of-state fugitive. He was also charged at the time with possession of marijuana.

In 2012 while living at 1008 Aloha Way, he was arrested on a warrant charging him with failure to appear. He was also charged with resisting arrest.

On Sept. 17, 2014, while living at 807 Weeping Willow Ave., Followell was arrested on two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia in Fruitland Park.

On Nov. 20, 2014, he was sentenced to 29 days in the Lake County Jail on charges of driving while license suspended and violation of probation on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia.
