A member of the Sumter Landing Bicycle Club has been recovering in an Indiana hospital after suffering a health emergency 100 yards from the finish line in a triathlon.
Emmett Troyer had been competing in the triathlon Aug. 6 in northern Indiana when he suffered a heart problem. Reportedly, a quick-acting paramedic saved Troyer’s life.
The following day, Troyer underwent surgery at Elkhart General Hospital and was found to have been suffering severe aortic valve disease. He may need a pacemaker but is expected to recover.
