Villages Hospital Emergency Room overload

To the Editor:

Am I the only Village resident that believes we deserve better service than what The Villages Hospital Emergency Room provides? Example: This past Monday my mother-in-law needed emergency care for a knee condition and her orthopedic doctor was on vacation so we took her to the Villages Hospital Urgent Care. The Urgent Care Center sent her to the Emergency Room as they were not equipped to examine her knee. We were the 10th patient in the waiting room. Five hours later we got to see a doctor. By this time the emergency room was full, I estimate 30 plus people. I felt sorry for them. When leaving the shuttle service driver told me it is a three to six hour wait every day. Next time I am going to Ocala were the wait time was 30 minutes according to their website. Why should a community of 120,000 55-plus residents only have one community hospital?
