The Villages has a new district commander for the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

Lt. Michelle Wissinger was introduced Friday to the Community Development District 4 supervisors by outgoing MCSO District Commander Lt. Thomas Calhoun.

With the election of a new sheriff in Marion County, the office has been undergoing some reorganization, Calhoun said. He is being transferred back to the main office.

Wissinger has spent 20 years with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and has worked extensively with volunteers.

Supervisors said they were disappointed to see Calhoun go and thanked him for his excellent work. They also welcomed Wissinger and said they look forward to working with her.

The Villages District Office, located at Mulberry Grove, also has responsibility for Summerfield, Stonecrest and Spruce Creek.
