The Villages Parrot Heads Club presented donations to two local charities in June as part of the Club’s commitment to help the less fortunate in the surrounding communities.
Caring Hands, an outreach of the First Baptist Church of Wildwood, was presented a check for $3,500, which will be used to provide food and clothing for the needy.
Help Agency, a volunteer program which works with the Salt Life Church in Salt Springs to provide food and necessities for approximately 6000 needy children in the Ocala National Forest, was presented a check for $3,500. Amanda Wills of the Help Agency said the real number of children in the forest is higher but unknown because there are areas which are inaccessible.
Steve Larson, Community Relations Trustee of the Clubs, said that the club carefully screens the local charities so that the club members know that the money they donate goes to the needy. He further stated that many club members feel that raising money and helping support the needy is a primary reason for belonging to the club.
