Through a series of documentaries and discussions, members of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Marion County (UUFMC) invite area residents to learn more about Islam and its role throughout civilization.
The UUFMC Social Justice Committee is showing the PBS documentary titled “Islam, Empire of Faith,” in two parts at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, and Saturday, Oct. 8. Admission is free, but donations to support victims of the Middle East refugee crisis are encouraged. Cash or checks are payable to the UUSC-UUA (Unitarian Universalist Service Committee – Unitarian Universalist Association).
In addition, Mark David Welton, Ph.D., J.D., will be giving two presentations as part of the UUFMC series to help people better understand the Islamic world:
- Thursday, Oct. 27, 6 p.m. – “Turning Points in Middle East History”
- Tuesday, Nov. 3, 6 p.m. – “Shari’a: What It Is and What It Isn’t”
Welton’s presentations are free and open to the public, with donations encouraged to support refugees. Both the PBS documentary and the lecture series will be held at UUFMC, which is located at 7280 S.E. 135th St., Summerfield. For more information, call (516) 581-4011.
