Villages residents are being encouraged to conserve water as the area is under a Phase 1 Water Shortage.
The District Property Management is leading by example, as it has discontinued plant replacements, with the exception of palm trees and annuals. Both palm trees and annuals are irrigated with low volume irrigation.
Earlier this month, the Southwest Florida Water Management District declared a Phase 1 Water Shortage for portions of Lake, Marion and Sumter counties. Currently, groundwater levels in Lake County are extremely abnormal and levels in Marion and Sumter counties are classified as severely abnormal. In addition, short- and long-term flows of the Withlacoochee River and 12-month and 24-month rainfall levels in all three counties are severely abnormal.
