David Suleiman, who runs Amerikanos Grille in Spanish Springs Town Square, has retained criminal defense attorney Mark T. Conan to represent him in the case.

Last week, Suleiman entered a plea of not guilty in Sumter County Court.

A status conference in the case is scheduled for Sept. 6.

Suleiman remains free on $2,000 bond.

The 31-year-old brother of the operators of RedSauce and Johnny Rocket’s restaurants in Lake Sumter Landing had gone June 22 to the Heart of The Villages cardiology clinic. A staffer informed Suleiman that his insurance would not cover the payment for his test.

Suleiman “became very irate, picked up a Dell flat screen computer monitor off the desk in front of where she was standing, threw the computer monitor in her direction, and temporarily damaged the computer monitor after it landed on the ground in front of her,” according to the probable cause affidavit.

The woman said she had to take evasive action to avoid being struck by the computer monitor.

She said “she was in fear the defendant could have caused substantial harm due to his aggressive behavior of him yelling obscenities and throwing the computer monitor at her,” the affidavit said.

Several other employees who witnessed the incident backed up the woman’s version of events.

The clinic provided Suleiman’s contact information to the deputy. The deputy’s calls to Suleiman “met with negative results.” A warrant was obtained leading to Suleiman’s eventual arrest.

Suleiman told Villages-News.com that he had recently undergone open heart surgery and had gone to the clinic to see his doctor. He said he was in distress, but was told the doctor had a full schedule and could not see him. He claims he merely “pushed” the computer monitor.
