The Villages All-Star Band will perform An Evening of World War II Era Music as hosted by the World War 2 History Club on Thursday, Feb. 2 at North Lake Presbyterian Church. This concert is a fundraiser and the proceeds benefit the Villages Honor Flight program. “We’ve got twenty of the best musicians in the Villages,” said band coordinator Dave Czohara. “They are all from different groups and bands and they come together once a year to play this concert.” This is the seventh year the World War 2 History Club has hosted this concert.
Two vocalists, Michele Ehret and Dodie Fisher, will accompany the band. Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, Sentimental Journey and At Last are among the songs they will sing. Ehert is a vocalist with Music Mixx and Fisher heads her own group Driving Miss Dodie. “The audience is welcome to join us and sing along,” said Ehert.
Musicians in the group play with different groups including the Villages Concert Band, Music Mixx and Boardwalk.
Band Member Lanny Austin ran his own big band in Detroit for many years and played for Motown Records back in the day.
Tickets are $10 and can be purchased by contacting Don Goldstein at 352-391-1135 or Liza Walters at 352-753-9964. If any tickets are available they will be sold at the venue thirty minutes before show time. Concert starts at 6 p.m.
This concert is open to the public; you do not need to be a Villager to attend.
