The Villages Twirlers and Drum Corps have begun practicing their routine for the upcoming Fourth of July festivities in the squares. Patriotic music and intricate military marching moves filled La Hacienda Recreation Center during their run-through this week.
This year’s festivities will be exciting with the addition of a new routine and the added bonus of some of the Villages Twirlers’ grandchildren performing right alongside them.
Twirlers Captain Ann Pelle said the Fourth of July is their biggest and favorite event.
Watch their rehearsal for the show:
“It will be so awesome this year with four of the members’ grandkids joining in. We are so excited to have them,” she said.
The plan is to have the grandchildren join their respective grandmothers during the Lee Greenwood song, “God Bless the U.S.A.”
Ann Pelle’s granddaughter, 8-year-old Madison, Cathy Clemintine’s granddaughter 8-year-old Madison as well, Penny DeCordova’s granddaughter, 9-year-old Nicole and Sherry Canger’s granddaughter, 9-year-old Brooklyn, will all be performing.
The Twirlers will pass out 1,200 American flags in each of the three squares. Each flag will have a sticker reading “God Bless America, with love from the Villages Twirlers and Drum Corp.”
The Twirlers will be performing their patriotic routines on July 4 in all three squares. Brownwood Paddock Square will be their first stop at 5:45 p.m., followed by Lake Sumter Landing at 6:45 p.m. with their final performance at Spanish Springs Town Square at 7:45 p.m.
“Our fingers are crossed for no rain this year,” Pelle said. “But, rain or shine, we’ll be there and it will be a fantastic performance. We promise!”
This is the ninth year the Villages Twirlers will perform on the Fourth of July for the town squares.
