Street Rod golf cart owners love showing off their distinctive rides

In all shapes, colors and options, 67 Street Rods were on proud display at Sumter Landing, Friday evening.  They were admired by a steady throng of envious admirers who paused to take photographs, and to ask questions about everything from horsepower to accessories.

The event was sponsored by the Villages Street Rod Golf Cart Club.

Sue and John Flor, of Largo, show off their 2012 ’37 Ford Limo with its unique two forward-looking bench seats.

“There are 900 Street Rods registered in the Villages with some 1,700 owners,” said the Club’s event coordinator Mike Payne.  “Therefore, they all are Street Rod members.”

Ric Douden and Karen Daniels, in front their Street Rod, invited strollers to participate in the Walk MS at the Polo Grounds, Sat. March 24. The Street Rod gathering was a fundraiser for the MS Society.

The event was a fund raiser for the local chapter of the National MS Society.  All the Street Rod owner’s entrance fees of $25 were donated to the charitable organization.

“There also was a 50/50 raffle with proceeds going to fight the disease,” said Karen Daniels, one of the MS group’s organizers.  “We also invited everyone to participate in our MSWalk, on Saturday, March 24, at 8 a.m. at the Villages Polo Grounds.”

She and her husband Rick Douden, of the Village of Gilchrist, were located in front of their ‘34 Ford Street Rod.

More information about the MS Walk and to register is available at mssupportgroup.org.

Phil Colburn, of Lynnhaven, shows off his 2007 29 Ford Model A Street Rod.  The hood ornament , a quail, was “borrowed” from his 1930 Model A Roadster.
