A doctor charged with acting as a video voyeur in a Publix supermarket, has decided to stop practicing medicine in Florida.

Dr. Akram Ismail, who had practiced in The Villages, was arrested last week after he allegedly used his smart phone to shoot video up a woman’s skirt at a Publix in Groveland, where Ismail lives.

He is currently free on $5,000 bond. He has opted to voluntarily stop practicing medicine in Florida.

Ismail had lost his medical license after a 2009 arrest for attempting to hire a hit man to even the score with a former business partner. He entered a negotiated plea in that case and received two year’s probation. His medical license was reinstated after he paid steep fines.

He had privileges at The Villages Regional Hospital at the time of his 2009 arrest.
