To the Editor:
So sad to read of the death of Bobby Vee of Alzheimer’s Disease. My wife of some 50 years is also afflicted and has been a resident of the Ocala Health & Rehab Skilled Nursing facility for the last 19 months or so as I was no longer capable of providing the care she needed and deserved at home. I remember singing along with and dancing to Bobby Vee, and all I can suggest is that this disease plays no favorites, attacking famous people such as Bobby, former President Ronald Reagan, and everyone in between. Lord willing, the efforts that are being made to address this pandemic will be successful in diagnosing, treating, and eventually curing this otherwise fatal condition. I can only hope your readers begin to understand that a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease today is essentially a death sentence until and unless the “powers that be” direct the funds and the effort necessary to reverse this course.
