Wildwood approves largest-ever budget with growth on horizon

Wildwood commissioners are bracing for the city to more than triple in size in the coming years and approved its largest-ever budget Thursday evening.

The $19 million budget begins to pave the way for future growth with improvements in the water and sewer system.

“This is significantly more than in years past,” said Mayor Ed Wolf.

City Manager Bill Ed Cannon indicated that it would be prudent for the city to start the improvements now, ahead of the anticipated growth.

The population of Wildwood is currently 7,116.

Cannon said the city’s population could reach 60,000 by 2030.

“There is a lot going on in the city of Wildwood,” the mayor added.

As part of the continued growth, Lakeside Landings was given the commission’s approval Thursday to add 201 single family lots to its development.

Lakeside Landings, located on County Road 472 adjacent to the Village of Bridgeport at Miona Shores, began construction of its existing 425 planned units of Phase 1 in 2005. Now Phase II will include 1,600 to 2,500 square-foot homes and some five bedroom homes.

Other residential developments in Wildwood include Oxford Oaks, Grand Oaks, Peppertree Village and The Villages projects in Brownwood.
