A 35-year-old Wildwood was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence after his vehicle hit a power pole.

A Sumter County sheriff’s deputy was called at 2 a.m. Monday to County Road 148 where Jamie Leon Dobbs was found next to his car with front end damage.

Dobbs denied that he had been drinking and told the deputy he had taken a valium, according to the arrest report. He denied being behind the wheel of the vehicle, however, eyewitnesses said he had been driving.

He failed field sobriety exercises and provided breath samples that registered .189 and .173 blood alcohol content.

He was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center where bond was set at $1,000.
