A 54-year-old Wildwood man was arrested last week after he allegedly attempted to remove the battery from the lawn mower of a man he has known for 20 years.

Bobby Dean Smith Jr. at about 11 p.m. Wednesday was spotted removing a battery from a riding lawn mower at a residence on County Road 235, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

The lawn mower’s owner asked Smith what he was doing and he fled on foot. A cable to the battery had been severed and the battery was partially removed from its compartment under the seat.
