Wildwood man lands behind bars after leaving woman with black eye

Matthew Gene Dodge

A 39-year-old man was arrested after reportedly leaving a woman with a black eye.

Wildwood police were called last week to the Eaglewoods Mobile Home Park where Matthew Gene Dodge yelled at and struck a woman with whom he resides, according to an arrest report from the Wildwood Police Department.

When an officer arrived on the scene, Dodge yelled obscenities at the officer who then ordered him off a porch at taser point.

The woman said she and Dodge had been arguing about his drinking and not being around the house to help out, the report indicated.

He threw a lit cigarette at her, lunged at her and then struck her in the right eye three times.

He was arrested on a charge of battery and booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $10,000.

Dodge was arrested last year after he was spotted driving without headlights in The Villages.
