Wildwood mayor praises partnership with The Villages on Village of Fenney

Wildwood commissioners on Monday approved a two-year agreement for Wildwood to maintain roads and right-of-way landscaping in the Village of Fenney.

They also approved final plats for 456 Fenney homes and heard the first reading of an ordinance to annex about 400 acres of land near the Florida Turnpike recently acquired by The Villages.

Two years ago, Wildwood officials rejected a Villages plan to build 800 homes along County Road 466 across from Pinellas Plaza. Today, Wildwood and The Villages are cooperating to build the Village of Fenney.

Wolf said the result has been “a partnership that was more than we thought it would be.”

Commissioners also: approved an ordinance allowing alcohol sales at restaurants where at least 51 percent of the revenue comes from food and other beverages.

“I think the explosion of growth in this area necessitated asking for this change,” Wolf said.
