Construction is expected to begin soon on the Lowe’s home improvement center in the Trailwinds development along County Road 466A.
Development services director Melanie Peavy told members of the Wildwood City Commission Monday night that a closing on the property was last week and most infrastructure improvements have been completed.
Trailwinds is one of several major Wildwood projects that include the Village of Fenney, the Villages of Southern Oaks and commercial projects. The projects have generated so much work for Wildwood that two staff members have been added to the development services department.
“This is where it’s happening,” said Mayor Ed Wolf. “It’s a great place to come look.”
At the meeting, commissioners approved a site plan for Trailwinds Shoppes West, an 11,760-square-foot retail building. Peavy said other Trailwinds additions are expected to be announced soon.
The development will feature an Aldi grocery store, Circle K gas station and an assisted living center. When completed, it will include 296 homes, 462 assisted living beds, 572,750 square feet of retail space and 151,500 square feet of office space.
A total of 339 homes have been approved for the Village of Fenney, Peavy reported. The community eventually will have 12 subdivisions. The commission approved a master plan along with plats and site plans for three Fenney subdivisions at the meeting.
Plats for the first four subdivisions in the Village of Southern Oaks are expected to come before the Wildwood Planning and Zoning Board next month along with site plans for roads serving the new community. On Monday night, commissioners approved master plans for the first two phases of the development.
Other Wildwood projects include Freedom Plaza, five retail buildings under construction on the north side of State Road 44; Wildwood Crossing, 175,000 square feet of retail space on 24 acres; and the second phase of the Oxford Oaks residential development.
