Wildwood police searching for man with gun

Wildwood police are searching for a man with a gun.

The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office sent out a Code Red alert warning residents that an armed man was out in the city. The sheriff’s office dispatch sent out the alert on behalf of the city of Wildwood.

Witnesses indicated that the armed man had been involved in a car chase that ended with a crash and the man fleeing on foot.

Meanwhile, Wildwood police shut down West State Road 44 and County Road 219.
