Jason McHugh, who has served as Wildwood’s assistant city manager for the past several years, was appointed city manager Monday night by the city commission.
McHugh replaces Bill Ed Cannon, who resigned effective July 1 after serving five years. Cannon will serve as a city consultant through the end of the year.
McHugh’s former position of assistant city manager apparently won’t be filled. Wildwood did not seek other city manager applicants.
After serving as acting city manager since July 1, McHugh was promoted permanently to the post with a three-year contract that expires Sept 30, 2020.
He will receive an annual salary of $105,000 plus $500 monthly in car and cell phone allowances.
“I don’t have a problem with the salary, given that Jason’s done a heavy share of the workload,” said Mayor Ed Wolf. “I don’t see a need for an assistant city manager at this time.”
McHugh said he looks forward to his new duties, which include managing Wildwood’s robust growth.
“I appreciate it,” he told commissioners. “We’ve got a lot of work to do as we go into the next fiscal year.”
