William Elliott

William Elliott
William Elliott

William R. Elliott went to be with the Lord as he passed into eternal life, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, August 29, 2014 in Kannapolis, NC.
Bill was born in Elizabethton, TN on February 21, 1933 then later raised in Conklin, NY with his parents and three siblings. It was during his senior year at Binghamton North High School in 1950 he proudly enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving his country in Japan, and in Korea against enemy forces. Later in Bill’s career life he enlisted in the U.S. Army as a recruiter, rising to the rank of Master Sargent, while receiving many decorations and badges, including the U.S. Army Recruiter of the Year Award. Bill was 13 credits short of a Bachelor’s Degree in divinity studies from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA.
For more than 61 years, Bill was the beloved and faithful husband of Lois F. Elliott, who predeceased him by six months to the day. Bill was determined to be with his precious wife on what would have been their 62nd Wedding Anniversary, passing away only hours before. He was a loving and kind father to Lucinda Taylor (Philip) Chrys of Schenectady NY; Richard (Cindy) Elliott of Mint Hill NC; Ronald (Nicole) Elliott of Charlotte NC; Bonnie Roskowski of Weirsdale FL; Darryl (Kelly) Elliott of Kannapolis NC; Catherine (Keith Austin) Sturgill of Weirsdale FL; a worshiped grandfather to 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; and proud sibling of Margaret (Wayne) Heier of Ocala Fl and Donald (Rose) Elliott of Whitney Point NY; and several very special nieces and nephews.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, Clarence Elliott and Frances Frost Scott, as well as, his brother Robert, and his much loved daughter Denice Rider.
Bill lived with his wife for many years in The Villages, FL, where he was an avid lifelong golfer. Bill was Assistant Pastor during that time for Community United Methodist Church in Fruitland Park, FL. where his true life’s devotion to serve the Lord and be a minister to those in need was realized. He also served as pastor at Sumterville United Methodist Church and Center Hill Methodist Church, as well as a guest pastor at Lady Lake Methodist Church in FL, and at Harpursville United Methodist Church during summers in the Binghamton NY area where they had a second home for many years.
Friends and relatives are invited to attend funeral services at the Community United Methodist Church 309 College Ave., Fruitland Park, FL on Sunday September 28th, at 2:00 p.m. Internment with military honors will be Monday, September 29th, 11 a.m. Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Ave., Bushnell, FL
In lieu of flowers, Bill Elliott would want you to do random acts of kindness for those less fortunate than ourselves whether it be buying a meal for a homeless person, sitting beside them and sharing your time, or any simple unacknowledged way that may bring a smile to some other person’s life.
