A 26-year-old woman was arrested Friday afternoon after she allegedly attempted to steal more than $300 in merchandise from Belk at La Plaza Grande in The Villages.

Megan Bateman took several items of clothing into a fitting room and when she came out the items were gone and the hangers remained, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. She was found several stores away with the merchandise which had a total value of $322. She also stiffened her body and would not cooperate when she was being taken into custody.

She later volunteered to return the items in exchange for community service.

She was booked at the Lake County Jail. Bond was set at $3,000.

She had been arrested this past October on charges of grand theft and resisting arrest.
