Woman arrested after allegedly attempting to steal fragrances at Belk

A 44-year-old woman was arrested Thursday afternoon after she allegedly attempted to steal bottles of fragrance from Belk.

Gladys M. Griffin entered the store at La Plaza Grande in The Villages shortly before 1 p.m. and attempted to conceal a bottle of fragrance in her purse, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. She then attempted to conceal a second bottle of fragrance in her purse. She was confronted by the store’s loss prevention officer after she attempted to leave the store.

The bottles had a combined value of $164.

She was arrested on a charge of petit theft and booked at the Lake County Jail.

She was released after posting $1,000 bond.
