A 28-year-old woman was arrested after she allegedly stole a makeup kit Thursday morning from the Walgreens on Bella Cruz Drive in The Villages.

Melissa Nicole Emerson of Gainesville entered the store at about 7:30 a.m. and was spotted in the cosmetics section where a shift manager thought she was behaving suspiciously, according to an arrest report from the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. She went into the store’s restroom carrying a drawstring bag. After she left the store, she was stopped by a deputy who sought permission to search the drawstring bag, to which she consented. In the bag, the deputy found a makeup kit taken from Walgreens.

As she was being taken into custody, Emerson admitted she had a plastic bag containing less than a gram of cocaine, the report indicated.

She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on charges of petit theft and possession of cocaine. Bond was set at $2,500.
