Woman arrested on drug charges after calling law enforcement to vehicle fire

A 27-year-old woman was arrested on drug charges after calling law enforcement when a vehicle caught on fire.

Sumter County sheriff’s deputies responded at 6:15 p.m. Friday to a location on State Road 93 where Kelsey Rae Banta of Belleview was found with a 1991 Ford F150 which had been on fire, according to an arrest report. The vehicle had been reported as stolen in 2015 to the Gainesville Police Department.

A search of Banta’s purse turned up .2 grams of methamphetamine and a pipe for smoking meth.

She was arrested on charges of drug possession and possession of drug equipment. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $3,000 bond.

In 2015, Banta was arrested after she allegedly pocketed $1,700 while she was working as a manager at a Brownwood eatery.
