A funeral service was held this week for a woman who has died as a result of an accident that claimed the life of her husband in April.
Janice Tripp, 85, had been a passenger in a car driven by her husband, 84-year-old Clayton J. Tripp, which collided with a semi truck at 5:40 a.m. April 16 on State Road 44 in Wildwood. The Tripps and their daughter, 58-year-old Diane Tripp, had to be extricated from the vehicle by Sumter County Fire & EMS after their vehicle became wedged underneath the trailer of the truck.
The semi, driven by 32-year-old Erwin Howard Williams of Springfield, Mo., had been eastbound on SR44 and was making a U-turn to travel westbound on SR44 toward Interstate 75, according to an accident report from the Florida Highway Patrol. The car had been traveling westbound in the inside travel lane and struck the center of the trailer.
Janice Tripp died June 25 of injuries suffered in the crash. The Tripps’ daughter is expected to recover, according to family friends.
The Tripps spilt their time between Ohio and a winter home in Wildwood.
