Woman with long criminal history arrested in theft of merchandise at Belk

A woman with a long criminal history was arrested in the theft of merchandise at Belk at La Plaza Grande in The Villages.

Shayla K. McFadden, 23, of Leesburg was arrested after she went into a fitting room at the store Friday afternoon, tried on a new bra and walked out of the store wearing it, according to an arrest report from the Lady Lake Police Department. She was detained by the store’s loss prevention officer. She attempted to give the loss prevention officer a false name and a false Social Security number.

She was taken into custody and booked at the Lake County Jail. Bond was set at $1,500.

She had been arrested in August on charges of trespassing and criminal mischief. She was arrested in May on a charge of battery. She also has several other previous arrests.
