A 45-year-old woman arrested after she overdosed in front of her child earlier this year in the Oakland Hills subdivision has landed back behind bars.

Karen Elizabeth Brien, 45, of Ocala, was arrested Monday on warrants charging her with failure to appear after she skipped a court date in Sumter County Court. She was booked at the Sumter County Detention Center on $8,000 bond.

In August, Brien’s little girl found her unconscious in the bathroom and alerted a neighbor who called 911.

An ambulance arrived and EMS personnel gave Brien two doses of a drug that counteracted the opiods. When she was revived, she got up and attempted to conceal a syringe and spoon that she had used in the overdose, the arrest report indicated. She refused to be taken to a hospital.

Brien said she bought the heroin from a friend in Ocala because she wanted to try the drug.

She was arrested on two counts of possession of drug equipment and one count of child neglect.
