A Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the Lowe’s store located at 7575 SW 90th Street and made contact with the store’s loss prevention officer, who advised that he witnessed 36-year-0ld Candace A. Waddell select a Dewalt router power tool, valued at $139.99, off of the shelf in the tool area, according to an arrest report. He advised that he followed her through the store to a separate aisle where Waddell removed the power tool from the box and concealed it inside of her large pink purse, the report stated. The loss prevention officer then followed Waddell toward the lumber area’s exit, where she passed all points of sale without paying for the item. He then stopped Waddell and detained her in the office until the deputy’s arrival. The loss prevention officer advised that while speaking with Waddell, she admitted to stealing the item and that she also filled out and signed a form provided by the store admitting to stealing the item and why she did it.

The deputy spoke with Waddell, who advised she did not know why she did it. When asked about the theft, Waddell advised she stole the router but did not know why she did something “so dumb.”

Waddell was placed under arrest and was transported to the Marion County Jail. Bond was set at $1,000.
