Woman ticketed in golf cart on County Road 25 had been in golf cart crash week earlier

A woman in a golf cart ticketed Friday morning, had been involved in a golf cart crash about a week earlier on the Historic Side of The Villages.

Ashley Dawn Smith, 33, of Ocklawaha was cited for improper operation of a golf cart when she was spotted at 6:45 a.m. Friday driving a blue 2000 Yamaha golf cart on County Road 25 at Griffin Avenue. The ticket will cost Smith $166. Golf carts that are not street legal are not permitted on that particular stretch of County Road 25.

Smith had been involved in an accident Feb. 15 in that same golf cart.

She had been a passenger in the golf cart driven by 38-year-old William Jason Scheil who lives on Lintz Lane on the Historic Side.

At about 2 p.m. that day, Scheil and Smith got into an argument while driving the golf cart west on Devon Drive, according to an accident report from the Lady Lake Police Department. Scheil slammed on the golf cart’s brakes “out of anger,”  and the wheels locked up. The sudden and forceful application of braking, caused the golf cart to flip over onto the driver’s side. The golf cart fell partially onto Scheil’s left leg, breaking the bone below his knee. Scheil was transported to The Villages Regional Hospital. Smith was not injured in the accident.
