Fernando Varela and his trio Forte moved one step closer to claiming the $ million prize in America’s Got Talent. The group sang their way into the final six, performing in next week’s finals (airing next Tuesday at 9 p.m.).

Forte edged out fellow singer Branden James in what Howie suggested was an “equal” dual. “Yeah, we’re just…this is incredible!” said Varela of the opportunity to sing in the finals. “The first time that we performed was on this show and America has been taking this journey with us” said Forte.

The night kicked off with a fantastic performance from last season’s AGT winner, Olate Dogs. “There is a reason why they are champions!” said host Nick Cannon of the returning dog act.

Among the other finalists were singer Cami Bradley and comedian Taylor Williamson, who broke character for a moment and delivered a sincere message to his younger fans: “Any kids out there who gets bullied for being weird, awkward, or dorky…I was like you and still am like you…and if I wasn’t like you I wouldn’t be in the finals of America’s Got Talent!”
