A large group of residents of Community Development District 6 turned out Monday evening for a “State of the District” presentation at Lake Miona Recreation Center.
“After the last home is built and sold in The Villages, the lifestyle we are enjoying now, we will continue to enjoy because we are a community development district,” said CDD 6 Chairperson Sally Moss.
She described herself as a “frog,” (“Here ’til we croak.”)
In her opening address, Moss outlined the responsibilities of CDD 6 supervisors.
“We all have been elected by you, the residents of District 6,” she said.
She pointed out that this is the first fully resident-elected board, elected by the registered voters of the district.
CDD 6 includes The Villages of Bridgeport at Miona Shores, Bridgeport at Lake Sumter, Tall Trees, Virginia Trace, Lake Shore Cottages, Edgewater Bungalows, Amelia, Largo, Sabal Chase, Caroline and Mallory.
Each of the CDD 6 supervisors took a turn at the microphone outlining the district’s finances, project wide improvements in The Villages, the district’s investment strategy and deed compliance.
Supervisor Joyce Edmonds urged residents to become more involved. She encouraged them to go through CDD Orientation classes and to sign up for Resident Academy.
“It’s our responsibility to know all that we should know,” Edmonds said.
Janet Tutt, district manager for The Villages, also spoke at the meeting likening her role to that of a city manager. Numerous others from the district office and customer service center came out to be available to residents in the meeting.
“I was very pleased with the turnout. It showed me that the residents that were there are as interested in the district as we are,” Moss said after the meeting.
