The American team came into Sunday only needing four points to retain the President’s Cup, and had no problem gathering the points in dominating fashion.
Tiger Woods scored the winning match, after finding the green on the 18th and two-putting for par. Woods went 1-up victory over Richard Sterne, and this was the third straight time he has won the clinching point in the Presidents Cup.
The final score ended with 18.5 points for the US to the International team’s 15.5 points. Although many of the matches on the final day were closer than the Americans would have liked or expected, the victory was a well-earned relief for team captain, Fred Couples.
