Summerhill (5-2) was soundly beaten by Rio Ponderosa (3-4) 15-5 in the opening game of this season, but they returned the favor Saturday  in a much closer game. Summerhill’s left fielder, Dave Bronte, played an exceptional game robbing the Rosas on more than one occasion.

Home team Rio Ponderosa took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on an Al Schirmer sac fly, but the Summerhill Seniors answered with five runs on seven hits in the second.  Roy Schwartz socked a double and Gene Schwenk two rbi’s.  The Rosas came right back with four runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game a 5-5.  Pitcher Gary Schultz and Bob Farrow slammed a doubles.

Neither team was able to score until the top of the sixth inning when Summerhill’s manager Bill Maffia and Mark Muha drove in a run each.  Rio Ponderosa was kept off the scoreboard in the last two frames giving Summerhill a 7-5 win and a four game winning streak.

Mark Mahu, Roy Schwartz, Wayne Johnston and Roy Schwartz had two hits apiece for the Seniors.

Jim Fellabaum and Dan Marrello led the Rosas with three hits each.
